the last two „the amount of … and perceive sth … might be used only in southern parts of Germany. But „verabreden“ is totally fine. You use it just in a slightly different context. You can use both in the same conversation.

Maybe it's a regional thing. Back when I lived in southern Germany, I remember my colleagues using 'ausmachen' in casual settings...

"Ausmachen" in "Das macht mir nichts aus" does not mean "not bothering", but the opposite. "Nichts" provides the not-part of not bothering. Otherwise, very interesting post, even for a native speaker like me.

Hi Joerg, thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it. As you know, I am not a native speaker, and I still have a lot to learn about your beautiful language, so every correction is a gift... in the English sense of the word 😀 Danke.

This was terrific, Roldano! The separable verbs in German carry so many meanings, one must almost incorporate them into the subconscious, where they'll be automatically understood when they're heard again. There's another useful meaning for ausmachen: 'account for', ('constitute'): Here's a fun example: What accounts for the importance of 'ausmachen'? Was macht die Wichtigkeit von „ausmachen“ aus?

Hi Brooks, I wasn't aware of this other meaning of ausmachen. Thanks for the example that made me smile. It's very funny.
